Susie tonight it's supposed to be 40 here in my area and tomorrow it will be 39. After that it would go back to the low 50s

WOW you guys are awesome and devoted. I am leaving them all outside. I'll let you know if any die. I am curious anyway as to whaat they can handle, and if I bring them in Ill always wonder what would have happened if I had left them out. LOL that sounds crazy even to me.

I brought every one of my orchids inside other than 1 phal that is in too big of a "housing" and my monster vanda.

What are the temperature limits on orchids? (Or is that too broad of a question)?

I'm a "worry wart" and try to bring my chids inside if the temp. is expected to get below 48 degrees because the weather guy can always be off a few degrees. I also take the wind chill into consideration. Back in November we had one night where the thermometer dropped to 32 degrees for a few hours. Unfortunately, I was unable to bring my plants in that night and they did suffer some damage. The ones in bud lost some blooms and all the Vandaceous types suffered cosmetic damage by developing tiny black dots on their leaves. The Dendrobiums and thin leaved Oncidiums were unscathed which really surprised me.

Can't say I have, Swamper. I'm a scaredy cat when it comes to my orchids. But yeah, I've lost a lot due to curiosity...

Oh, wait a minute....I just remembered that I have about 10 Catts. hanging from the palm trees in front of my house and I'm not bringing those in. I'll let you know how those do.

Thank goodness for my spare bedroom aka grow room. The chids on my lanai are Vandas, Dens and Oncidiums. When it dips below 50 I shut the hurricane shutters to that area. I'm near Sanibel/Captiva Islands and temps are predicted to hit the 30's/40's tonight with 20s inland! I remember back in the late 90's we had a hard freeze that wiped out all the tender landscape vegetation...Hibiscus ect. Farmers in our surrounding areas are picking what veggies are in the fields and covering the rest for tonights cold snap. Every once in awhile we get a few really cold snaps in winter....guess this is one of them! Keep the chids warm and cozy when ya can. I have a bunch of dendros rooted around my palms in my yard and those babies will have to sink or swim.

Hey at least you guys don't live in Canada. Its -16 C (3 F) here right now. I can only leave the chids outside like 3-4 months of the year so I don't even bother.

We got down to about 33 last night and it hasn't been above 45 all day!

Another cold night tonight and then we should be okay

I can't do any work on the chids with all the regular plants sitting in the room!

Sue I can't get my feet warm to save my life!
I did go on weatherunderground's site and they have the little sun pictures with mid 70s high and lows in the 50s for Sunday thru Thursday! Hoooooooooooooray!!!
