ugly but effective: plastic net pot in votive candle holders, starbucks and other brands plastic coffee cups, one inside another, the inner one is used as s/h pot with holes about 1 inch from the bottom, the outer one is to catch the drain off water. makes watering so much easier.

My most exotic material is Port Orford Cedar (arrow wood). I use this for many of my mounts. It's impossible to get nowadays.

Iv'e done the tupperware thing - works great.
Treefern mount.
Jello, pudding or fruit cups.
Deli containers.
Large flat pieces of lava rock.
Large seashells.
Coconut shells.
My L.tenebrosa & L.purpuratas grew up in beer cups.

I've been using the traditional clay orchid pots and plastic pots. But I do have a rock I found at work that I'm thinking of using to make a mount.
