encyclia question

hi all

i was given a encyclia tampansis,this morn,the ataching branch fell from tree,was wondering if okay to remove existing branch and bark from orchid via water bath and pot into clay pot and what medium to use.

My for what it's worth: I wouldn't. You can do some major damage to roots by trying to forcibly remove them from something they're attached to. If you really want to pot it, I'd cut off the branch as close as possible to the plant, disturbing the roots as little as possible, then pot the whole thing including the chunk of branch still attached. Enyclias like an open, fast-draining media.

My experience with these is that they do better mounted then potted.

I concur with the previous responses: You could pot it up in something like straight tree fern, but tampensis definitely does best mounted.
