Angraecum repotting

I have a large angraecum that needs repotting. I have read that repotting angs is tricky business. Anyone want to suggest tried and true methods? Thanks, Bill

I only have one in a small pot and haven't felt led to repot. You are correct. Those warty white roots pretty well "glue" themselves onto the pot and pulling the plant out will break the roots. If you don't have one, I would visit the hobby section of Wal-Mart or a local painting supplies store or a Michael's. etc, and purchase an artist's spatula. They are extreme thin and flexible and maybe 4-5" long and 1/2" or so wide. They will slide right in between the roots and the walls of the pots. I wouldn't spend a lot of time wrassling the bark out (or whatever medium.) Add some new stuff around the mass as you place it in the new pot. Try to minimize root disturbance as much as possible. Because of all this touchiness, most of mine are being grown as mounts on sticks or slabs. Much easier (although daily watering is required.) Hope this helps.

Yes in deedie, they love to hug on, I took the venture last year and repotted. I soaked mine for about an hour placing root stimulator (root-tone) the last 15 minutes and ended up popping the clay pot, loosing a few roots, which is a given and is coming along well on its mount. Like Ross said daily waterings but loves the tree fern.

I was given angreacum by a friend, all she did was break a piece off her very large plant, it has 17 leaves, 2 flowering spikes, and many air roots, I set it in a six inch pot. placed broken crock and bark arount the truck of the plant, most all of the roots are still exposed. so far the buds continue to open and all seem to be doing well. some of the green root tips are turning black, but i think that is just shock, we will see.
