How long to keep a new orchid seperate from the others in the home?

I read that when bringing a new orchid into the home you should keep it away from the others in case it has something wrong with it that may be passed on.

But how long is long enough?
Its been about four days now and I'm just wondering when it would be safe to introduce the new plant to the others?

I'm one that doesn't do this. I repot every orchid I buy (I don't remount the mounts) and that normally shows any problems. I soak/spray with Physan 20 all newbies when they get repotted, or I soak the mounts. That's how I do it.

myst, you can keep em apart till you are sure and certain that there are no bad bugs or microorganisms on the new plants....gen quarantine is traditionally ten days or so...a lot of people repot all thier new plants, ie, take away the medium the new plant is in and put it in a new pot with new medium....there is a spray concentrate called physan 20 which is good for disinfecting new cuts or using as a 'root wash' to clean your new orchid. all this is designed to keep from bringing in any bugs or disease to your collection. you can buy physan 20 from any orchid supplier...and i recommend you do. use it to keep your tools (clippers etc) clean and disinfected as well as disinfecting plant material. hope this helps....

Im with Ross. I quick repot and a little disinfectant and plop on the shelf. And I usually do it quickly before my partner sees that I've brought another one home. Thank goodness he's too lazy to count them!
