Inducing Buds after Bud Blast..... Female
Default Inducing Buds after Bud Blast.....

Hi everyone,

So I have 4 orchids sitting in a row.......1 Phal growing large buds, another still finishing the growth of its new spike, a Catt growing leaves and my last Phal was doing fine although about a month ago when it produced tiny buds, they dried up and fell off.

I've been waiting to see if it would grow in any way for the last few weeks but it has become absolutely still while the other 3 are still growing right beside it.

The spike at the top where the buds used to be is still light green and fresh looking, so it hasn't dried up and turned brown. All leaves are perfectly fine except one day a few weeks ago a couple yellow rings appeared in the middle of one of the leaves....but nothing has happened since.

I'm wondering if I could cut off the top of the spike to induce it to grow once again and hopefully get new buds........??

or should i just leave it alone....???

I don't know if this will help. But sometimes the spike will branch and grow more buds if left alone especially as you say the spike is still green. It may take a month and a half or more.

If your question is about the one Phal that blasted the spike, I would cut it, then try to determine why that happened. I am confused, because you indicate you have 2 others doing well with the spike/bloom process. So there is something aggravating the one Phal that bolted or dried up. Did you check the roots? Is it in the same growing area as the others? Is the watering the same? Is the fertilizing the same? Get the picture? I like to recommend clear pots to Phal growers because one can check the condition of the medium and roots very easily. Air around the plant could be the culprit as well. Too much draft. Not enough draft. My advice is compare what is different.
