I agree with Camille. I have 8 plants, they are in front of a window with a desk lamp pointed down on them, with a "daylight" compact florescent bulb. I put some aluminum foil on the inside of the shade, so that it reflects better, but I'm not sure that it's necessary. Good luck and I'm sure your girlfriend will love it.

I bought a white desk type lamp with a compact fluorescent bulb at Office Max for 30.00. It has a flexable neck. It also comes in black.
