Default Breeding question

Just because I have a lot of 'chids doesn't mean I'm not still a newbie with questions. I'm entering my 'chids into a database and am double-checking them against Wildcatt to see if any are registered when the tag says ***** x *****.
I've come across 3 so far that come up with the Grex name of Ascda Kasem, though they're not all in the vanda family.
Could somebody explain this? I'm sure others will appreciate the answer too.

Example:

I have one den with a tag that says
Den Violet Sword 'Radiant' x Den Wild Cherry Lipstick Beauty Velveteen ( what a name, huh? )

When I do a search on Wildcatt, the following comes up:

Grex Name: Ascda Kasem
Pod Parent: Den wulaiense
Pollen Parent: Den wulaiense

Oddly, the same exact information comes up for another den with a tag that says
Den Thailand x Den Sena Red

I'd love to ignore all this stuff and just grow pretty plants but I guess I should learn this

I'm not sure what is happening with your parentage search. Ascda Kasem= Ascda Phairot x v.coerulea.
Either there is a bug in the program or you are searching incorrectly...I've never had that problem before with Wildcatt.

Sounds to me like there might be a bug in the program. You might want to consult Wildcat if you can't get heads or tails out of this one. It's wild that the same comes up for both.

What type of database program did you get? I have one I made up myself and just purchased one in which I might have to do a merchant dispute over if I do not hear from them in the next day or two, which leads to me looking again for the best one to fit my needs...

I have Cattleya-Log 3.0 which is a great program, very detailed and holds tons of info...once I get them all entered!!!

I think the Wildcatt problem may be the push I needed to just bite the bullet and get OrchidWhiz!

You can also use the RHS website here.

Your Dend with the long name is either Wild Cherry x (Lipstick Beauty x Velveteen), or (Wild Cherry x Lipstick Beauty) x Velveteen.

Sue, did you go to RHS and see if it comes up the same as Wildcat (wondering what it said.) Orchidwiz is a great program but that one puts you over the top of out-of-control.... Catt-log is a great program , used it temp when I first started, not sure why I never kept it up, need to go back to it.

Hi Bill, thanks for the input. I've been pondering it for a while now and since I don't see this hobby being something I get tired of anytime soon, I might as well have the tools I need, right?

Well, that's how I rationalized it, anyway
