My 1st spikes ever!! Hwra. Lava Burst 'Puanani' (pic) - Orchid Board

I went on vacation to Alaska for 3 weeks, leaving my orchids to fend for themselves (I had my boyfriend water them a couple times). While I was gone, the weather got COLD here in Florida (in the 30's), and all my orchids stayed outside. Maybe that helped give this one a kick in the butt!! This is now my first orchid which I have successfully gotten to produce spikes all on my own (2 spikes)!!! I can take full credit for this one

Congrats!! I have my first spike groing as well!... BTW you didn't take your B/F to Alaska with you!?!?!

Thank you guys!!! I was SOOOOO excited when I got back in town! Almost a year, and I finally get a reward

I wanted to run around town and buy all the orchids I could find.

My boyfriend wasn't able to go with me, he had to work :P But he's coming to Alaska with me for Christmas next Friday! His first time to Alaska! The orchids will have to take care of themselves for that week. Haha. Good thing they're tough little plants!!

What type of orchid is spiking for you???

After looking at this orchid a little closer, I believe that each of the new pseudobulbs are producing TWO spikes each!! So that would mean 4 total!! Three of the spikes are just barely peaking out, so I wasn't sure at first. But they are definitely there! I will post pics when it's blooming
