This was also posted on the ID forum because I don't know what it is.

I purchased this several months ago and was curious to know more specifically what it was.

I would sure appreciate any attempts at IDing this as well as any input on care for it (I might be doing something wrong). This one also has to new shoots or canes coming up but no other spikes yet. It has also had two of the leaves near the middle turn yellow and fall off plus there is one now at the top that seems to be developing a hole...?

FYI, I am keeping it near an east window and water it about once a week. I basically water it until i is running out the bottom and don't water again until it is fairly dry. It is in an orchid mix with rock gravel at the bottom for drainage.

This is Dendrobium phalaenopsis hybrid - probably impossible to get the exact name. It sounds like you are pretty much doing things correctly - not much I would suggest you do differently, though when the new growths are matured you can cut back on watering and give it a bit of rest. That'll help with flowering. It can probably take more light than you are giving it and higher light will also produce more blooms - just be careful you don't stick it into direct sun and sunburn it. It has to adjust, like a human being to higher light. The leaves that are dropping are no problem. It eventually does that on the older, mature growths.

Hi Ben, welcome to the OB.

I agree with Ron, mature Dend canes will lose all leaves and still manage to grow new canes. The top leaf though seems to have had snail damage, but worry not if you don't keep finding spots like that it is probably because it got it somewhere else.

Thanks for the reply. These are indoor plants, so no snail. The mystery remains. I'm still a little worried because if this keeps happening I won't have many leaves at all. But I didn't know they'd keep growing anyway.

That one larger shoot is really taking off. I can notice it getting taller almost day to day.

This looks like Dendrobium "Emma Queen". I have one too and it does not need any special care. Just make sure the medium dries out between waterings. My emma queen is about to bloom too
