Phals are fine in moss. The reason i say water might be the issue is cause the moss is usually much lighter and it will get dark as it decays and cause the phal looks to have some water accumulating in the bottom. The roots of the den are looking a little on the brown side so they could be rotting. The sheath on the bottom of the den is normal and does not indicate underwatering.

What you can do between now and Saturday is take the Phal out of the pot, cut some slits in the sides of the pot all around, and put the plant back in. You can also turn a fan on it to help it dry out a little quicker. The sphag that most plants come in is way past needing to be changed. It's not the ideal time to repot, but it's better than having the plant die.

Can you tell what the Den is potted in?

I have done that and it worked. I cut rectangular holes in the pot big enough to fit my finger and i stick my finger in to check if it needs watering and it offers extra air to the roots

Okay,

I'm getting ready to repot. I bought the orchid bark--CHC/perlite/charcoal--and it's undergoing it's third soak now (the first was for 24 hours, the second for 48 hours because I got sick...either flu or food poisoning).

Should I let the media dry out a bit (after I drain the water) before I repot? If so, how long to you all recc?

Oh, and you guys were right...the leaves on the Phal sprung right back up a couple days after the store watered it. The plant looks really great now. If I don't have to let the media dry out, they'll be happily repotted into their fresh media...I'm so excited!

Niki
