a $6 orchid in 2 inch pot........
Since I don't know if I can keep these plants alive I'm looking for a good price to start. I found a $6 phal in a 2 inch pot at this site:
Our on-line shop
What should I expect? I know it won't be blooming but will it be a viable plant?
Sorry for all the silly questions.

I suspect it would be a viable plant, but whether or not it will survive to blooming is up to you and your abilities.

As seedlings, you are at least two years away from the possibility of seeing blooms. I'd pick up a plant locally or find one online that is Blooming Size or at least Near Blooming Size. The long wait will drive you crazy and you won't know for a very long time whether you're doing well or not

Oak Hill has great stuff, always healthy and packed well.
Make sure the price has an asterisk * next to it to confirm it is Blooming Sized

Seedlings are wonderful. I've probably got more seedlings right now than adult plants. However, they aren't beginner plants. Seedlings take different care than BS plants; more care in water maintenance, temperature specifics, etc. When successfully raised, the first flower of a seedling is among the greatest rewards given by orchids, but unless you've learned enough about the plants it's all too likely that a seedling, especially a Phal seedling small enough to be in a 2" pot, will die before reaching blooming size.
I don't want to discourage you! Just being realistic.
Oh, and I personally love the plants I've gotten from Oak Hill, too.

The one that I linked to is a small variety and is listed as being at blooming size. That species grows in shady, humid forests with year round rainfall so it should be a good candidate for a beginner plant. The main thing I know of with keeping it happy is to keep it humid.

Sounds like it would be a good buy then! Try it, and enjoy it!
Living where you do you should also consider a trip over to Newberry, SC, to visit Carter & Holmes. Great plants, great deal, and good folks.
