A lot of my plants have a thin whitish or black thin covering or sheath. They are grown in a g/h with ~4000 fc. and high humidity. First 2 pictures are from a blc. "king of taiwan" and the 3rd picture is from an lc. purple cascade. I read on clanorchids .com (Epidendrum, Encyclia, Orchid, Orchids, orchid, orchids, CLAN Tropicals, Camp Lot A Noise Tropicals) a culture tip that removing the sheaths can enhance photosynthesis, etc. Is that a good idea? Thx!!

Hey Jm i hate sheaths on my plants so i take a toothbrush and i gently scrub them off. They can hold water and insects and i really don't like that. Plus i like to see the shiny bulbs underneath
