Default Sticky secretion from den spike

Hello,
I noticed on the flower spike of one of me dendrobiums that it is secreting a stick clear substance. It looks like tiny drops of water. what is this? Is this normal?

Take a look at this thread. It's a Cattleya but it is the same sticky substance.

Thanks for the info. I won't be licking the spike anytime soon to see if it's really sweet. I trust what others have said about it.
