Default New growth on stem - what is it?

Hello, everyone! I haven't posted in a while since things have been growing great! I just discovered a new growth on one of my phals. The spike has been cut for quite some time, and seems to be drying up. (This is one I rescued from the garbage a couple of months ago.) I'm not sure if it's a new branch growing, as this seems like a strange time for it to be sprouting a new branch? Could it be a keiki? I'm curious to know what it is! Any input? Thanks!

The pic didn't show up. Try it again and then someone can say.

It's showing up for me, so I'm not sure what the problem is? Here is the link:

the pic's not showing up here either. maybe picasa doesn't allow direct links like that? or maybe you have it set to private?

Thanks strange, I can see the pic in your first post just fine! It's hard to tell what it is at this stage, but I'm guessing it's a side spike. I don't think a keiki would be quite so pointy looking.
