Repotting Phals: expose roots?
I successfully repotted a threatened phal in commercial orchid mix: should the roots be exposed, or covered with mix, at the crown of the remaining stem?

I was wondering the same thing and found this website that gives step by step instructions on how to repot a Phal. Hope this helps.

I have always repotted making sure the actual crown is at the surface of the new mix.

Some roots around the crown are ok to be "arial" roots. Depends how high up they are.
