Default Dendrobrium and Oncidium winter care

Hey guys,

Been away for a while, hope everyone's been well.

Trying to figure out how to care for my dendrobium (Love Memory Fit) and oncidium (type unknown) for the winter.

Dendro: Leaves on the canes that flowered last year just finished yellowing and falling off. I now have 7 6" canes, 1 12-14" cane (one of the 6" branches off of another cane, looks pretty cool and will post a pic later).

Oncidium: Took a while to come out of shock after it was split into two and transplanted. Now has 4 pseudobulbs. Hasn't flowered this year.

Do I take them off the windowsill? Stop watering them (been slowing down on that anyway)? I'm in NYC, so it can get cold here.

TIA,
-Adam

Let both dry out between waterings. Move away from windowsill if it's cold there. If actively growing feed regularly. Patience is a virtue! My Salaya Minist is spiking and about to bloom and my Onc. Carnival costumes are spiking currently. Bright indirect light for both types.

Hi admsteiner. I think that your Dendrobium is a Nobile Dend. and if it is, then all watering should stop for it's winter rest. One way to tell is if you had the plant when it budded the last time...did it begin with nubs, right on the canes that turned into buds or did it grow infloresence that in turn, grew buds? Do a search on the web and if you find that this is a Nobile Dend., then stop all watering until you begin seeing these nubs (around Feb or soon after) and keep the plant in high, indirect light.

As for the Oncidium, these don't require winter rest but cutting back in watering during the winter for these, is a good idea. Make sure the medium is dry before watering.
