Ok. So I'm taking the phal out of the fridge. But outside it goes!!! I'm not putting up with its crap!! Bloom or die!! Piece of crap! Its a wonder that orchids survive at all in the wild...I hate this orchid. If it doesn't bloom from the outside temps, I will use it for skeet practice.

Phals don't need fridge cold temps to bloom. The end result is going to be a dead phal, frozen to death, and for sure you'll never see blooms on it in that case. Why are you so intent on torturing it? Torturing it won't make the poor thing bloom. I get the feeling you hate it to death. If you give them enough light and food all year, normally the temperature drop in the fall is enough to initiate spikes. To help the difficult ones I put them between a closed window and a heavy curtain, which creates a cooler microclimate. I don't stick anything outside past september, the nights are too chilly.

Just my two cents...my first Phal ever finally put up a spike (after 3 years of babying!). For me it was putting it outside that did it. Brighter light, less babying, and a drop in temps overnight. I am sure my house drops at least 5 degrees (F) overnight because of how low I run the AC to sleep in humid FL. However, that just didn't do it. I say put it outside.

I also must comment that I love your Muw..hahas.. I too laugh like an evil torture lord. MUWHAHAHA....

Anyone else ever heard of a refrigerator called a "reefer"? Just wondering where that one comes from. I have heard fridge, refridge, but never reefer?

Put it outside, besides the garbage bin or compost bin. It usually works..

It's a pretty old name for a refrigerator, actually. Truck drivers have referred to refrigerated trailers as "reefers" for as long as I can remember. In the 70s, at the height of the CB craze, there was a song called "Convoy" that used the reference.

Why so dramatic? Just put some ice cubes in the bottom of the humidity tray at night. No big deal.

Give it to my dogs, that should cure it
Have you tried good strong lighting? I've never had to cool any of my phals.

Anyways, Happy growing
