i bought a coelogyne it looks pretty fine root bound blah blah! so first thing i untie them and make it freely coz its tightly wrapped (root bound). heres the prob. i bought it and well the leaves are having this accordion thing so i suspect its medium is soo dry. well watering them every morning. the light is the same with cattleyas. i dont see anything problem with the leaves. then one day i was looking at them eeK! theres yellow tinge on the lower part anyway im going to post some pics please tell me if this is still alright. the leaves are still green. i touch the stem and its firm dunno wats wrong? could this be natural or dying! oh no!!!

dgen... im falling inlove with ur black chid! LOL!
Thanks Frostedeyes...I'm glad you like...er...love my avatar chid.
It is V. Erika Cizek Dann 'David's Black Pearl'. I'm hoping it will grow a keiki soon so I can have it cloned. I'll be sure to keep folks updated as things change.
Right now it has three spikes growing. I'll post a photo...or 2 or 3... when the blooms are at their peak.
It looks like the natural aging of the sheath leaves as the growth matures. Coelogynes do prefer somewhat less light than most Cattleyas, but I doubt it's much of a problem. Is the accordion thing (also known as pleating) lengthwise or across the leaf? Coelogynes have natural lengthwise pleats, so you probably don't have to wory about that either. The older psuedobulbs look a little too wrinkled, but I've never grown Coelogynes and I don't know how old those growths are. From what I can see, the growth with the yellowing at the base is healthy. Keep an eye on it and post any changes.
thanks greenbean and dgeno! anyway i think i have the answer with the coelogyne yellow prob! i have a feeling its a bacterial rot! i tried peeling the yellow leaves and its moist the scent is nice actually! to be exact it smells like vanilla ice cream with a shot of weird alchohol in it! so tomorrow here comes fungicide!!!! gee... i hope its not too late!!!
