Newbie owner of wine orchid..help needed
Hi,
I just received a beautiful gift of a wine colored orchid (wine on petals leading to white with wine speckles inside the flower)
Its white roots are crammed into a tiny pot.
I grow a few indoor plants but have never looked after a plant like this and have noooooo idea what to do.
I live in chilly Dublin, Ireland where the heating will be on alot over Winter in the room where I have it.
Can anyone help with a few pointers and tips on how to look after this amazing beauty?
Thanks,
Shelley
ps
Happy Halloween!

Sorry Shelley, but color does very little to help us give you decent advice. If you have any idea of the type of orchid, or can post pictures of the plant and flowers, that would really help.
Failing that, can you at least describe the growth and flowering habit?

Hi Ray, I'll post a photo up tomorrow, don't have my camera with me today.
I'm totally new to orchids and it came with no info either so I don't know anything about it.
Hopefully a photo will help
Thanks

Hi Shelly, welcome!
You have a Cymbidium. They are wonderful plants. I don't grow many as it is too hot most of the year where I live. You will get some great advice here though. Glad you found us!

That looks like a Cymbidium and it's pretty. I don't know much about Cymbidium culture but I'm sure there's a lot of our fellow members here that can help you. Welcome to the forum.

Since you live in chilly Ireland, this orchid (Cymbidium) will be great for you!

Hurray!! It's got a name!
Thanks everyone, I think it needs repotting so I'll have a look at that attachment, thanks Bonsai.
Hope it survives as I'm growing quite fond of it

Do not even think about repotting it now.
After it finished blooming, cut off the flower spikes and wait. Shortly you'll see new growths emerging, and when they have the beginning od little root nubs at there bases, then repot.
