Is my paph okay-a leaf is turning yellow?
Hello Everyone,
I am new to the forum and new to orchids. This is my first orchid and it is labeled as a Hsinying Alien x sib. I just want to know if the yellow on the leaf is normal or is there something wrong with my new orchid already.

It looks normal and healthy to me, the medium is a little dry from what I can see on the photo. The oldest leaf will eventually turn yellow (normal leaf drop).

i think it might be because the leaf is actually under the medium? I can't tell because the pic is sideways, but it looks healthy and i concur that the media looks a bit dry.

I agree the medium looks dry, but we should all consider that we are only looking at the top surface, and it looks fine enough that it might still be very moist in its interior.

WOW!!! I can’t believe how nice everyone has been on this forum. Thank you so much! I understand the picture is a bit misleading as far as the medium being dry. Because the medium is still settling some I had just added a little bit on top a few hours before the picture was taken but I assure you what is under there is moist. Also, that leaf is actually under the medium a little bit because of the way the plant has developed. If I have that part sticking out the rest of the plant has about an inch to an inch and a half of roots showing. I wasn’t sure what to do so I just put it at the level it was when I got it. Is that not right? Thanks for the comments on the bloom. I wish I could take credit but it was in bloom when I got it. Some members in the chat area thought maybe it was getting too much sun especially since there is a brown spot on the leaf but I am not sure because that was there when I bought the plant.

Paph tend to climb out of the medium. You can try to anchor them or do as you did, add a little more medium. Expect the lower leaves, if under the medium, to yellow sooner than they might otherwise. Keep a close eye on this under-medium-area for development of rot.

I sixth (or whatever number) everyone. Looks like normal age to me. Also agree with Cirillonb that the paphs just grow that way. When the new roots start shooting out the new growth they are always a bit above the medium. I throw a little moist spahgnum moss in that area only so the root is reaching toward it. I like to think the moisture of the spag. is luring the root toward it. Either way eventually the roots should make it down to the medium. You can also mist those above medium roots in the morning to give them a little extra help.
I also agree that the flower is really pretty. In the second picture you can see that the underside of the bud is kind of greenish...so nice!
