Doc,
I have no idea, per the question.
I'll take any input, and stupidity doesn't exist in my world.
It's been suggested to repot, I checked some roots, seemed fine to me but I'm new to this. Maybe I should have repotted, that would have really checked all the roots. But now, I don't know.
Thanks

On the left, does it look like a spike and another root, or 2 roots?
Remember these are from the ariel root orchid. Appreciate any advice.

The leaf on the right with the root about to go through it, just leave it be. It will either push right through the leaf and the hole will heal up nicely and not affect the leaf itself, or it will just navigate around the leaf. I have had both roots and spikes do this and just push through the leaf, causing no harm to leaf, root or spike.
As for the mark on the left...I am not too sure. It almost looks like a spike to me, but I can't see it well enough. The spikes usually look like the have a very tiny mitten on the end of them. I mean, it has one little spot on the side that looks like the thumb of a mitten poking out. I can't think of how to explain that better. If you can get a better shot or take a closer look yourself and there is a little thing poking off one side of the tip, then it may very well be a spike! Either way, it's a good sign!

Jenn,
Thanks.
The left activity, is 2 things. But they look different. You can see the silver and green close to the stem, which seems to be coming out and down.
Then the other has a different color and shape to it. I've been waiting for a photo and this is the best so far.
It has my attention tho.
Peter
OH, thanks for the explanation on the right leaf. That has eased my thinking.

Silver and green, definitely root.
The other thing, looks slightly reddish to me making me think spike, but could still be a root! Isn't is fun watching our orchids develop?
BTW, I noticed your little orchid table in the pictures looking so nice and spacious. You can bet that won't last long! Soon enough it will be crammed full of orhids and soon enough so will another table! Welcome to the addiction....

"Isn't is fun watching our orchids develop?"
I have to admit it is. But don't tell my friends... Just kidding.
The reddish one (I just went and peeked) doesn't look the like the others that I have become to know as roots.
So we'll wait and see. I also believe there is more activity lower down (another root maybe).
I'll keep you all posted.
Peter
self edit) guess what, there is another table beside that one with another orchid on it.

OK, Peter, Sorry for the brain cramp, but I think I've got it now, maybe ....no comments about my mental compromise...just having one of those bad hair days!!!!! I've taken your pic and put some labels on it....assuming they are as I have labeled and are what you think they are, then at some point in time you could repot in bark/CHC, Sphag or whatever you like (not soil or "potting mix") and just plant deeper to include the emerging roots....or allow the arial roots to grow wherever they wish to wander. I've never done this but might experiment and try with one of my chids that has a tall stalk with roots higher up, is to cut the lower end of the stalk, dust the cut end with anti-fungal powder and replant??????

Hi All,
Well I repotted the ariel root orchid, they no longer exist. Right/Wrong/Maybe we'll see.
I don't know what the roots to a plant like this should look like but there were a few, I trimmed what "I" thought, should be trimmed.
So Doc, if it dies, I'm blaming you. (jest)
But if does well, I'm thanking everyone. hehehe
Doc, in the photo you marked, I buried it to about the "Old Flower Spikes".
Q: How careful should I be in watering now?
Thanks all

Before repot:
After repot:
I believe that is a spike, Yes/No?
I tried to upload a doctored image, but it wouldn't take.
I'll try again.
