Indentication help - Phal, Paps, Wildcat, dend Male
Default Indentication help - Phal, Paps, Wildcat, dend

Hi All,
I am new to this forum and this is my 1st post so please bear with me.
I have been growing an Phal orchid for a year now and I have successfully got it to rebloom from the original spike I bought it with and a new spike grew that also bloomed.
Until these last few weeks I thought that all Orchids were Phals until I did a bit of research and bought a few more recently. This is when I really got confused. Not only were the tags not consistent with species of orchids that I had bought but I was finding that there was this thing called a "hybrid" or cross breed!
Due to this I started to wonder what type of Phal i had been growing for the last year and what orchids had I actually purchased recently.
I think I have identified the Dendrobium as a Emma Gold, one that has a tag that says its a Oncidium I believe is actually a Miltonidium Bartley Schwarz 'Highland'. Also one of the orchids that came labeled Orchidee I believe is a Colmanara Wildcat.
I think the Paphiopedilum is an argus and have no idea what either of the Phalaenopsis are but not for the lack of trying. Can anyone help me with my quest and tell me if I am completely wrong with the diagnosis of the names I have identified or help me identify the name of my Phals.
Many Thanks
Pete

As far as I can see a lot of the orchids for sale in the main UK shops are really poorly labled. Orchidee just means orchid (French I think) so anything labled that does not even tell you it's genus. (There are lots labled Orchidee in the UK).

I'm no good at identification and with Phals and some other Genus types identification of the exact hybrid is almost impossible because there are so many, many of those sold are not even registered hybrids. All I can do is confirm what you already know... the first photo is a Paph and the second and fourth are Phals.

Sorry I can't help more... I know the frustration though

as Rosie said, it's pretty much impossible to identify those exactly without a label. There are a large number of similar hybrids that look almost identical, but have different names (or might not be named at all)

the first one is a Paph, the second and fourth are Phals. the third might be a Colmanara (a hybrid of Miltonia, Oncidium, Odontoglossum). the flower is upside down. the fifth is a Dendrobium. the sixth one is an Oncidium (Miltonidium is a hybrid of Oncidium and Miltonia, and looks very similar. if it's labeled Oncidium, assume it's an Oncidium)
