Oncidium Twinkle...divide or repot? Male
Default Oncidium Twinkle...divide or repot?

I have a Oncidium Twinkle that is in need of repotting (or at least looks it to me). It's so squashed in the pot (2"-2.5") that roots are growing upwards.

My question is... does it need to be divided when I repot or should I just repot? I'm having trouble finding little pots, any suggestion on the size/type I should use? Maybe a 3" if I repot or two 3" if I divide? Should I wait until everything is through blooming? It has 5 spikes, one just starting to bloom, the others in the middle of blooming.

Thanks for any help.

yup I say the same thing

I got this same plant in the same size pot but could not find a 3" - 3.5" pot at the store, so I just used a regular 4" pot but filled the bottom half with styrofoam penuts. Mine seems to be doing well

I don't know if this is one that is overpotted or underpotted by mine tends to fill any pot quickly and is forcing against the rim. I plan to leave it alone through 2 blooming cycles and repot again. I would like this to be a larger "specimen" plant since the blossoms are small and the fragrance very pleasant.

I agree with what's been said, just repot it into something bigger. Also, if the roots are in good health, I would wait until it finishes blooming to repot.
