Ross
Hi again Ross,
I don't want to grow an orchid in my foyer (or anywhere, for that matter) that would look leggy, so I see now that the Epi wouldn't be suitable for that area. I've been re-thinking the situation, and am contemplanting moving my Ludista Discolor there. ?? I would really rather not if I can find another mini I like, so do you have one that you would recommend for me? If so, I would appreciate it if you will let me know.

Thank you Ramon!
I'm very glad to know that the Dryadella I saw will be good for that area.....I thought it was very pretty. I will also look up pictures of Masdevallia strobelii and Promenaea Meadow Gold that you mentioned because I may like to have one of these, as well. I'm sure I wouldn't be disappointed because you have such nice orchids.
Thanks again for your help,
Vicki

Actually the Jewell Orchids might be your best bet. They do very well in low light and you'd have a year-round display in the leaves.

I agree with Ross, even the minis like Dryadellas would do fine, please keep in mind they are really what they are: miniatures!
Jewell orchids (Ludisia, Cheirostilis, Cyclopogon, Malaxis, Macodes) are great plants, and do very well under very low light. Another option is Oeceoclades maculata!
Epidendrum peperomia (aka. Nanodes porpax) is also a good alternative as mini for low light environment (blooming mounted plant in my pics)
I have quickly taken some pics of some minis, before teh weekend:
Pic 1: all together for size comparison
Pic 2: Dryadella zebrina (teh rules is in cm)
Pic 3: Dryadella zebrina and Dryadella edwallii
Pic 4: Dryadella edwallii
Pic 5: Masdevallia strobelii and Dendrobium laevifolium (warm grower but needs higher light!)
Pic 6: Epindedrum peperomia
enjoy!

Ramon, is E. peperomia a low-light species? Sounds and looks like something I might be interested in. D. laevifolium needs really high light (similar to Epi elipticum, only just short of full sun.) Mine is at approx 1800 foot candles in the tank with red leaf tips. Pretty intense.

Ross, according to IOSPE both Epidendrum peperomia (aka nanodes porpax) and the related species Epidendrum schlechterianum (aka Nanodes schlechterianum) and Epidendrum medusae (aka Nanodes medusae) are all low light species. All are very interesting plants, but medusae is a bit larger than the others... My peperomia grows under very low light!
My Dendrobium laevifolium has lost some of the red leave tips, as I thin needs a lot more light than what I am giving. However, it really loves the Sphag culture 19 new growths! all of them started to grow now in October and not in spring as expected

Mine have red leaf tips and it is a seedling - only three new growths, but all since mid summer, late as you suggest. Maybe tank culture? At least mine is in tank.

wll, tank culture could explain yours... but mine is growing outside under T8 (moving soon under T5).
My plants is also a young plant (not a seedling) with 7 PBs. According to the nursery, 1 to 2 years to bloom... I sent them a picture of it, and they were very surprised as none of their plants is growing so fast... I will meet this guys tomorrow at the International Orchids Show in Locarno... let's see what we find out duringthe discussion of both cultural methods (theirs and mine)
