back to gnats for a moment.... The fact that you see flying adults means there are larvae too, and they survive off of fungus growing on decomposing organic media. THAT suggests that you need to consider repotting into fresh medium.
Do not repot a plant in bud or bloom, especially that catt.
I have had good results with the sticky, yellow, fly ribbons. Think i got them at Wal-Mart for 1 dollar. Its the type you pull out of the small cardboard tube.
I had a outbreak earlier this spring, and was amazed at the amount of adults caught on the ribbons.
Ok I sprayed everything last night and put up some sticky tape things. I had already repotted the catt a couple of weeks ago when I brought everything in from outside. Hope i did'nt mess things up. I have two young plants left that I haven't repotted - do I need to do them?
Get a pack of "Mosquito dunks" at the garden center. Break one in quarters and put one quarter of one in your watering can. It contains BT which is a SAFE for people/pets Larvacide that will kill the larvae in the soil. That and sticky traps for the adults. A quarter of a piece will last a while in that watering can.
I used it as an excuse to buy more plants. So now I have a slew of carnivorous plants in my grow room. Very satisfying to watch them munch on the gnats.....though I seem be running out of gnats to feed them

Sundews are great Gnat catchers! I have a bunch of d. Adalae and some Capensis.
