Phal with fluid dripping from leaf . . .
Unhappy Phal with fluid dripping from leaf . . .

Hello All!

I have a 2-yr-old Phal that over the past few days developed a moist yellowish spot on the largest leaf. Since last night, I has started to drip fluid from this one leaf. The spot seems to be spreading and the texture of the leaf in the discolored area is soft but dry.

This plant has been healthy. I just changed it's location approx. 1 month ago and since moving it, it has developed one new leaf and a new flower spike. I think it is happy here, but now this drippy leaf!

Is this a disease? A pest? Or is it perhapse just a natural aging process?

Any help would be VERY appreciated (especially b/c I thought this plant was extra happy and getting ready to bloom!).

Pictures, pictures, pictures....Pleeeeease! Wet drippy spreading could be bacterial but.....PICTURES! Sometimes an insect takes a bite out of the plant and a secondary infection begins.....

Unfortunately I cannot take any photos of the plant until Monday (plant is at work). Given how quickly this seems to be spreading, is it advisable to clip the leaf off to prevent possible spreading to the rest of the plant? I'm afraid that if I wait until Monday, it may.

FYI, the leaf surface is barely discolored. The problem seems to have originated from the end of the leaf and is spreading inward. The rest of the plant looks completely healthy.

Is the leaf touching soil or some moisture which could cause rot?

chop it off just in case it is an infection or something, use something sterile and do it as close to the base of the plant as possible. You may just have an old leaf or you may have a deadly bacterial infection you would want to be on the safe side.

See if you can find any cinnamon at the office and sprinkle that on too.

Sounds like rot, chop off the infected area and use the cinnamon on the wound as betwix suggested.
I am struggling with rot on one of my prized bellinas mostly because I didn't act fast enough.
I suggest Phyton if you wanna use some heavy duty stuff on it.
