Good potting medium for vanda in West Virginia

The fact that the leaves have not browed or at least completely yellowed before falling off as well as the black at the connection area for the leaf suggests rot to me. I would definitely treat for rot early in the day ASAP. In the picture on page two of that plant when it was soaking in the sink,the plant appeared to have plenty of viable roots, suggesting a problem with the plant and not the roots. My thought is that you might have overcompensated for a plant you thought was really dry and it did not dry completely overnight leaving water in the joints causing the rot. Remember that vandas generally dry within an hour or so of watering, including the joints where the leaves meet the base of the plant. Leaving water overnight will cause that rot. Good luck!

I presumed you washed the PrimeAgra and soaked it for 24 hrs before making up your mix. Thereafter, soak the pot and enclosed roots in water or water/fertilizer for 30 to 60 minutes every other day or three. Be sure it drains thoroughly before putting in its place. I presume you are using a clay pot. If you went with a plastic pot you need to keep out of water longer. If it is in a basket, will probably need water more frequently. Look at visible roots and try to get a feel for when it is dry. It can tolerate dry better than wet. The roots should be free of water quickly after soaking.
