Default Uh Oh, here comes the cold in ATL!

Well here just North of Atlanta I woke up to 48 deg, 71 % humidity this morning. Getting time to bring the chids in, though it will hit the upper 70's today.

Here's my question:

For reference I have Phals, Dens, Bllra, and Mtssa.

Once we start having consistantly cold nights, below 50 (rest of the week will be mid to upper 50's), is it ok to bring them in at night and put them out each day (usually hit 70's)? They are going into a well lit sunroom right next to where they currently reside. Or leave them in once they come in?

Also, at 48 deg w/ high humidity did it hurt them? I did not expect this, Atlanta called for 60 or so but here in the northern 'burbs we dropped lower.

Thanks,

Steve

Hi Steve. Your plants shouldn't be at all effected by the conditions, so don't worry about that.

I don't personally like to carry plants back and forth. They're used to being in one place. More sensitive plants could actually get stressed being moved back and forth, never really getting acclimated to one spot. I'd suggest just bringing them into the sunroom to get settled in and acclimated for the winter.

Hey Steve I agree with jkofferdahl, I wouldn't be going back and forth and changing conditions for the reasons already stated. if they are spiking, about to bloom you will most likely also see a neg reaction. I would bring them in when conditions requiere it and leave them.

It wasn't cold here this morning but I could feel the diff and last night was pleasant at last to be outside.

Hey Steve, you will get good advice here on growing orchids inside the house (I can't help you there) . Looks like you are getting hooked on them just like the rest of us!
