Default Import from Phillipine

I am going to attend an import from Phillipine through Norwegian Orchid Society in spring 07. It is really difficult to chose from the list, but I have chosen some (nothing is decided yet)
Do any of you have some experience with these flowers?

Coelogyne asperata http://images.google.com/images?hl=n...-8&sa=N&tab=wi

Coelogyne rochussenii
http://www.coelogyne.net/Coelogyne_rochussenii.html

Vanda lamellata var. Boxalli
Vanda luzonica

Amesiella monticola http://images.google.com/images?svnu...&btnG=S%C3%B8k

Bulbophyllum elassoglossum http://www.orchidspecies.com/bulbelassoglossum.htm

Renanthera monachica http://www.orchidspecies.com/renanmonachica.htm

Phalaenopsis intermedia http://www.orchidspecies.com/phalint...avardiezii.htm

Phalaenopsis pallens

Phalaenopsis daltonii http://www.orchidspecies.com/phalabastiani.htm

Phalaenopsis equestris var. Ilocos http://www.orchidspecies.com/phalequestris.htm

I don't think I am going to buy any of the vandas. I think they are too big for my appartment.
About my growing conditions: At the moment I am growing in the livingroom, kitchen and at the bedroom ( for species which need colder temp) and under lights. Next fall I will have a glasshouse (not a greenhouse, but with connetion to the house - don't know what it is called in English)

Thanks!

Do you happen to know the name of the vendor that will be supplying the plants?

Any of the phalaenopsis species could be grown easily in your house. Most of the vandas and the renanthera will need more light than you can supply. Coelogne species might be a bit of a stretch although they are easy in a greenhouse. The amesiella would work in the house also.

Thanks Phantasm!
Very glad that amesiella can be grown on a windowsill, don't know that specie.
I have several Coelogynes, and not all of them like my growing conditions. Well, in a year I will have room and light for them, and I think they will survive untill then. A bit more concerned about the vanda and the renanthera. Not sure I can give them the humid atmosphere they like. But those Vandas are SO beautiful
If you want to collect orchids (especially species), Norway is not the country you should choose to live in. I know 1 orchidnursery in our country!! And it's very difficult to import as well because we are not a member of EU....... That's why it's a big opportunity for us when our orchid society arrange an import!

Marco: Sorry, I don't know the name of the vendor, and I am not sure if I can get it for you either.
But here is a link to the list - a lot of VERY intersting stuff!!

If you now any "must have plants" on this list, please tell me

Are you going to attend the exhibition or what? If the society is a Norwegian; is the exhibition in Norway? Norway is not far from Sweden, may be I can take a trip to see the plants too.

Hi Caroline. There is no exhibition as far as I know, only an import. Our national orchid society imports orchid once or twice a year. So at the moment I am busy studying the plantlist and searching on the net It's like eyecandy
Do you live in Sweden? I used to take some trips to Sweden when we lived in Oslo, and I went to the exhibition in Sofiero in spring 2005. Very nice place - and of course a lot of beautiful orchids.....

Hi Milda,

We live in the same town as where Sofiero is and we were even there during exhibition. We might have met there!!
So, you don't live in Oslo anymore? I have also looked up in the internet for the orchids that are in your list but some of the names of orchids can not be found anywhere. Do you think, they are new or they just have different names?

Nice to meet you, Caroline! You live in an beautiful area! Not so easy for me to travel to Sofiero any more, sorry about that!
About the list, I have googled around and it seems to me that some of the plants are listed under synonyms, but there might be wrong spelling as well. I really don't know. When I don't find anything on a "specie", I think it's wrong spelling. Maybe ask on the forum?

Milda
