Thanks so much for your help! That's just what I'm gonna do...keep an eye on it to be sure the black spot doesn't move. Of course, I really hope it doesn't, but in case it does, I'll scream bloody murder...so I hope you and others will please come to my aid, if that's the case.(very sad, though)

Vicki, I'd just leave it be, and keep an eye on it, like I mentioned. It's a fairly old cane, and as long as that spot stays put, you'll be fine, and may even save a finger nail, or two. These guys are tougher than we sometimes give them credit for.
