Ah, an old thread and mine is not a windowledge... but this is my mantle piece just now.
Actually I've added a 7th chid since this pic was taken, there is now a second flowering dendrobium on there as well. Also the den at the center has more flowers open, as does the miltoniopsis.
I can see this lot from my PC and I just love them all.

Wrebbit, you can get the shelving at Lowes. It's about $80 but will hold a load of plants. I have about 85 plants on it and I'm not even using all the shelves. There are 2 T5 light fixtures attached to the bottom of each shelf. Those will be your biggest expense, but oh so worth it. I chose to go with bare bones fixtures as they tend to dissipate heat quicker than lights in traditional "hood" set ups.
Your arrangement looks nice but my guess would be the plants aren't getting enough light.

just viewed you pic of growing in your window., What kind of bulbs are you using. I live in Fl and normally grow all year outside, but we have been having freezing temps, for over a week and they will continue for another week. needless to say my house is overrun with orchids, and I am ready to invest in some lighting, to keep things goingl I like your set up, but do not know what kinds of bulbs to us. thanks [
