Paph or Cattleya? Female
Default Paph or Cattleya?

I absolutely love green orchids, and I really would like to purchase one for the next addition to my orchid family. I found several that I like - mostly cattleyas, and one paph. I have 3 phals, and I would like to keep my new orchid in the same room as my phals, under the same conditions. They have diffused lighting all day long, fairly consistent temperature with decent humidity, and now that it is fall, fairly cooler temperatures at night.

Between cattleya and paph, which is easier to grow? Which of the two would do better in the same conditions as a phal?

Thanks!

Well for your growing conditions which you described I would say paph's would be easier for you to grow then catt's. The cattleya's usually need higher lighting then a paph or a phal.

Paphs take about the same conditions as phals. Cattleyeas need much more sun. Hope that helped.

I agree with these gals - Paphs are much more suited to your conditions - particularly most of the mottled-leaf varieties.
