Default Orchid Quarantine

Good evening everyone! I just ordered two orchids online today from sborchid.com. I've never done that but I couldn't find a local dealer w/ the one's I wanted.

I ordered a Maxillaria Tenuifolia and a Cattleya Landate but they told me the orchids have to sit in a quarantine greenhouse before they can be ship to Florida! Said they had to by law because Flordia doesn't want to risk getting some type of snail.

I think you'll like the Cattleya Landate. I got one from them about six weeks ago; the flowers were beautiful, although the smell--compared to the C. leopoldii parent--was a bit subdued. Still, very waxy blooms with a very nice combination of colors. Too bad about the snail issue. But congratulations on your purchases.

All the WalMarts in south florida were carrying the Maxillaria tenuifolia all summer SP2340. These have been showing up all over s.fla this year. Is it too late for you to check out the big box stores, if your order isn't a done deal, that is?

Thank you Sandy! I will check them out. I had no idea! I just ordered them today so I should be able to get my Stanhopeas Tigrina instead.

Maxillaria Tenuifolia is really a standard plant here in Florida...you shouldn't be having problems finding it

I have orchids shipped from California (Andy's, usually) all the time and have never come across a quarantine issue. It may be something to do with where they're coming from, not where they're being received.
