I'm don't have a lot of experience on separating keikis, but it sounds like you have it under control. Your keiki could be a bit bigger, and it certainly needs to have a more established root system before you take it from the mother plant.

I know that there are threads giving instructions on keiki care.

This post should boost you back up on the discussion board. Perhaps one of the moderators can give you the proper links that you need.

Oooh, Do-o-rothy! (calling plaintively)

Don't remove the keiki from the cane until there is at least a few roots with a few inches of growth to each root. If you really just want to get it potted, you can since the cane is not attached to a plant. You can leave the keiki on the cane and just lay the cane over the pot with the keiki facing upright. You can then fill in the medium around the cane and keiki and when it is established and roots are taking off you can just cut the cane away. If you don't cut it away eventually it will die off and can be removed then too.
