I just picked up a cute little mini at Trader Joes.

In any case, this is my first oncidium (sp?) and I am looking for a care sheet or thread link to look over general info on the plant. This is the only chid I have thats not a phal! dun dun dun...

This is a great plant I've seen dozens of them and they are all beauties...then a few months ago somebody brought the most beautiful specimen into our orchid meeting and I was floored! I no longer think of this is a "little plant"...and I am on a mission to get mine to look like hers...someday

I have mine in a small basket with sphag and it gets high light in the mornings and then high very filtered light again in the afternoon...seems to be happy...so far

I just realized we don't have an Oncidium care sheet in the Member Articles area...I'll get one posted...right after the thunder stops and I can get back online!

Is it Lava Burst 'Puanani' or Puanani 'Lava Burst'? I've seen it both ways. The tag that came with mine had it the second way. BTW, I've heard that increased light improves the bloom color. I have mine in a somewhat protected west window, shaded in summer. It doesn't seem to have the same intensity as it did when I bought it. This may be because it was on the verge of dying and thought it was putting out one last great show. Should I give it more light? As far as potting medium, I have mine in a mix of small gravel, sphagnum, and fine fir bark, to accomodate 3 cryptanthes growing with it. It has doubled in blooms from last year and in the size of the individual growths, although because it had to recover so much, that's still only about 12 flowers. Hope to get more per spike in coming years!
