I had tried growing phals on several different occasions but the first few didn't fair so well. In the beginning I only bought from Lowe's & HD so I only ever brought phals home. After a few years of killing them, two started doing well. My honey gave me a gorgeous paph last Sept and I have gone nuts w/ them ever since.
In the course of 7 months I now have over thirty orchids. Phals, dends, paphs, encyclias, miltassia, brassia, psychopsis, oncidiums, vandas & bulbos. I love the variety! A shade house is in the works...no telling how many there will be come next spring!!

I noticed you are from Clermont, FL. You need to go see Smiley. She is wonderful and helps you add more to your collections.

I only have 10 -- 5 cattleya hybrids, a tolumnia, an oncidium, a maxillaia tenuifolia, and a holy ghost orchid.

I probably have a couple hundred but a lot are seedlings. I am currently culling the ones that were 'freebies' from a swap a couple of years ago. They were going to throw them out so I took them home and have one by one been blooming them and finding them new homes (most are not the colors that I like and I am now focusing on more species).

I have 18 now (not counting jewel orchids or my cereus), 5 on the way, and 3 more to order next week.
I bought a bunch a few years ago and then didn't buy any more until recently. I plan to stop soon and just let them grow. After this current go-round I will be out of room though except for miniatures.

Thanks for the recommendation! I have looked at her site online several times but haven't made it there yet. I will have to try harder!

Funny, I just counted last night, I have 25 counting the one in the mail.
I wouldn't have gotten into orchids if I hadn't killed the first two so quickly....seems I can't get into anything if I don't view it as a challenge. I think had those survived, I'd still only have two!
I usually buy in multiples of 3.

70 or so. I'm constantly giving older orchids away because I have such limited space.

Me, too.
So far, I have about 120. 30 of them are Vandaceous. Once I get rid of Phrags, I will gain some room for more Vandas.
