Linnie! We might have been standing right next to each other at Redlands! Wasn't it wonderful???
I plan on skipping the big shows like that this year and going to the World Orchid Conference in 2008

I think even under normal circumstances, I would skip Redlands in 2007. It's not something I want to do every year, maybe every 2 or 3 I was thinking of going to the Miami show but now that I've gone broke having my sunroom built, I will wait for the show of all shows...the WOC in 2008
Hubby and I plan on making it a 3 or 4 day event. Redlands was a 5 1/2 hr drive from Spring Hill

1. Currently I have 16 Cattleya, 11 Dendrobium's, 1 Miltassia, 3 Oncidium, 4 Paphiopedilum, 5 Phalaenopsis, 1 Angraeucum, 1 Cymbidium, 2 Doritaenopsis, 1 Vanda, 1 Cycnoches, 1 Pleurothallis, 1 Ludisia, 12 kieki's (Dendrobium Christina Princess), taken from my Orchid spreadsheet.
2. Usually when I buy its at least 3-4, when I see them at work (HD) I usually pick one and only if its not a NOID. Don't get me wrong NOIDS are not a bad chid, just they are all so much alike, I've got a love for species.
3. I walked into a local market and heard my name being called by 2 orchids (dendrobium) and that was 16 months ago....still going strong.
Road trip for me to Lauderdale Show and Redlands, can't wait. I have heard so many wonderful things about Redlands and looking forward to the experience.

OOOh, fun question! I have about 34 orchids, maybe a few more (cuttings). And I usually tend to buy 3 plants at a time, though lately I did it in 5's. An increase in the insanity perhaps.

145 cattleya alliance
257 phal alliance
317 paph allaince
21 dendrobium alliance
9 misc
....this does include seedlings as well.
My orchid shopping is more by budget....mostly what can I get for $200.00. Unless there is a plant I have been long hunting for, then there would no mention of budget.
I could never have too many!

I now have 90+ orchids. The maximum I have received at any time is 14 and the minimum would be zero (will power), sometimes only to return a few days later for the purchase because the orchid was still calling me. For the most part if I want a named orchid it has to be mail order as there are no orchid nurseries for hundreds and hundreds of miles from my location. Occasionally Walmart, Home Depot or local nursery has a named orchid (usually phals.), so the at home selection is very limited .

My oh my... I will have to show this thread to my hubby, he thinks I might be getting too many orchids. LOL
Suzanne, were you the one that took that Catt Colorguard?? Funny, I knew I should have picked it up when I made my first round.. THe one thing I will do differently is bring a rolling cart AND buy the orchids when I see them, instead of waiting.. I missed a few good ones that way.
Our orchid group took a bus down to the Redlands so i will probably go again if they return next year.
Have any of you signed up yet for the World Orchid meeting in Miami yet??
