Holly,

I don't see anything wrong with your daily watering - if it's really drying out that fast. Phals grown in s/h are wet all the time. I don't think it's water alone that will rot your roots. As long as they have good free-draining media, they'll love it moist. The rot issues will rear their little ugly head when there is not sufficient air around the roots, like when the media breaks down.

In short, frequent watering may be required for some plants, or some conditions. Just know that the media will break down much sooner, and without more frequent re-potting you will eventually run into rot issues.

I cut back on the watering, to every other day or every 3 days a good soaking. It started wilting the leaves again. I had to rush out the door the other morning and was frustrated it was wilting again. I plunked the dry as a bone roots into a cup of water for the day and let the bark soak. When I got home it was looking much better.

Why is it so much mroe high maintenece than the rest of my phals?

Should it be semi hydro or something?

I recently bought a phal manni that came in a two inch pot, in moss. I moved it to a three incher in bark. It started to wilt almost immediately. After about three weeks of daily watering, it finally stabalized, and is now doing fine. I think pot size, plant size and the type of plant can all be involved, not to mention your particular growing conditions. I think you'll be just fine once yours settles in.
