Orlando dee, the aliflor is inert and does not break down. In the long run you spend less money. You can reuse it too. some people add a weak solution of bleach, others bake in the oven to get rid of any germs

I only use aliflor for the majority of my plants for a number of reasons. You don't have to repot as often because it doesn't rot. It's much neater to work with. It looks nicer. Bugs and pests don't make themselves a home in there...once in a while I find a rebel but mostly, no bugs The expense of having to buy potting mix for a large collection is cut way down because the aliflor can be reused once it's disinfected. I use a bleach solution, let it soak for a day or so, then rinse it well and let it soak another day in some clean water with KLN in it.
