Anyone growing Eulophiella roempleriana?

Help! I have been trying to grow this species for the last two years and am having trouble. I have tried it in sphag, large bark, small bark, mixes with rock wool, charcole, bark, and or perlite. When the plant gets to about 8" it turns brown and dies and sometimes a new shoot will start from the runner. The most success has been with straight sphag, letting it almost become dry before watering. Right now I have one in half sphag and half styrofoam. I think the problem is that the roots are staying too wet. Any ideas will be gratefully appreciated.
