How to fertilize with pet frogs ? Male
Default How to fertilize with pet frogs ?

How do you fertilize without killing dart frogs ? Im told they are very sensative to stuff like that. My nepenthes pitcher plants get thier fertilizer from insects that fall into the picthers. Just curious how people fertilize with pet frogs, There must be a few of you out there. The lady I bought my broomiliads from said she didnt fertilize, because she had wild tree frogs in her greenhouse and didnt want to harm them. Just looking for some ideas, Thanks, Dan

In theory, the frog's droppings should act as a fertilizer.

The frogs do the fertilizing for you. Once in awhile I'll spray with water that I've changed out of fish tanks.

We used to keep poison dart frogs of various kinds. We never fertilized the plants. Figured it was up to the frogs.

My outdoor orchids and the ones on my lanai get fertilized with a nutricote type product named Dynamite (Red top container available at Home Depot) It's a granular kind you sprinkle in or on the medium. It has never cut into the frog or lizard population as they seem to "fertilize" everywhere else except in the orchids.

Here are the results:

Thank you! The urns are Dendros. The kind that don't drop their leaves in the winter.

use a low-nitrogen fertilizer, if you're going to use any at all. they're typically available from shops that specialize in dart frogs or bonsai.
