Default If I had a million dollars...

I'd be rich. But I don't. I have $100 to spend on orchids (including shipping). Help me make some choices.

Here are my conditions:

Windowsills

Temps int-warm (some parts of the apt are warmer/cooler than others)

Humidity 50-60%

Light up to 2500 fc available if needed

Smaller-growing plants are preferred, as are plants that are near maturity. Go to it!

My Epidendrum radiatum 'Maui Mint' is growing quite well in a small bark mix on a shelf with no care more than watering and feeding weekly or every few days.....

My Schromburgkia sauvis bloomed for me on my shelf with no extra light and is putting out new growth. It's in a plastic pot with rocks and water to keep humidity up a bit...

My Mexipedium is just adorable and putting out a new little growth - again, the boring shelf routine...

Also in my favor is that I'm a cheapskate deal seeker... I'm sure I have many more to suggest, but those were off the top of my head...

Brassias are nice. Some clones of Rex, Edvah Loo, verrucosa, and caudata are fairly compact.

Here's just a few that come to mind...

Brassavola hybrids
Lc Tiny Trick
Cattleya mini's
Encyclia cochlea
Leptotes bicolor~some might think not but had a friend who grew this on her windowsill and it put out a wonderful growth and vigorous spikes
Pleurothallis grobyii
Aeranthes Grandioise
Dendrobium oligophyllum
Guess you can see which would be my choices..

Phalaenopsis bellina and Phalaenopsis violacea are two Phal species that no orchid grower should be without. (They were formerly classified as two forms of the same species.) Both are beautiful and fragrant with compact flower spikes. P. bellina has a sweet, floral scent and P. violacea has a more spicy, perfumey smell.

There are some nice varieties within the respective species. There are coerulea and alba forms of P. bellina that I am aware of, but they can be somewhat hard to find. Violacea has more color variations and they are more readily available.

You can find them cheap or you can spend big money on the finer ones, which are a result of selective breeding. Some of the violaceas currently available are particularly spectacular, in my opinion.

hey, question...am I reading this right?

Carter and Holmes in Spike list

Do they seem to advertise an in-spike Prince Edward for $25????

If so, I may have found my vendor!

Settle down now, unfortunately you aren't reading it right. They list top sellers on each page, they are not part of the category you're looking at. There are no plants in spike listed right now.
