vanda that blooms all year round

Hello everyone,

I'm quite a beginner to orchids.In search of how to take care of my orchids,I found the Orchid Board.Thank you for being here.

Now, my question is, Is there a specific type of vanda that blooms all year round? Or how often does a regular vanda blooms? Do they have like specific type that blooms spring, summer , etc etc.

I'am fascinated with vanda.i have few vandas that i collected over the few months.What to do to make them bloom?

Vandas in their natural habitat (eg. Thailand) bloom and grow continuously all year round, so it really depends on your growing conditions.

Are you growing indoors or outdoors? Do you have heating?

There are some 'easier' bloomers, ones that are more cold tolerant ie. vanda coerulea hybrids.

You may want to try Asc. Princess Mikasa, Vanda Sansai Blue and Vanda Blue Magic.

I was able to bloom Asc. Princess Mikasa Blue and V Blue Magic within 3 months of purchase- vase culture. The blooms are really worth the effort!

What makes a vanda bloom? Well, lots of sunshine (6000FC), water/ humidity, air movement and a variation between night and day temps (8-10C).

What vandas are in your collection?

I have a couple that bloom a number of times through the year...

V. Manuvadee and Ascda Busaraporn are two that come to mind

If acclimated to- and grown in higher light levels, and fed accordingly, vandaceous plants will bloom more often.

I feed my Vandas every day. I mix fertilizer in a spray bottle and spray only the roots. Try not to get water trapped in the little pockets the leaves make next to the stem.

I have a number of vandaceous plants that bloom quite frequently, and one that has been in contant bloom since march, 2007! The key is something that has already been mentioned, and depends on your growing conditions and how much you are willing to put into growing these wonderful plants.

I grow mine outdoors in 65 to 50% sunlight. I protect them in the winter when the temps drop below 50 degrees F. They get watered every day...twice when temps go over 90. I fertilize weekly, all year long, with Dyna-Gro liquid at 1/2 teaspoon per gallon and Superthrive. Every 6 weeks I supplement with Epsom salts and potassium nitrate mixed at 1 tablespoon each per gallon of water.

the plant that I have had in bloom since march 2007 is Ascda. Sweet Pea ‘Ruby’.

thank you for your replies.

i grow my vandas out side on a covered deck, hanging on top of a koi pond.Water them daily early am before going to work at 6am.fetilize them ones or twice weekly with 20-20-20 dip them in container until their roots saturates.I bloomed 1 fuchs delight and is blooming right now. but actually believed that it bloomed because i left it all day soaked in a weak fertilized 10-30-30 in a bucket.I went to work forgot it. few weeks later i thought it was a root boy was i glad it was bud. Sooo happy.But any all your experinces is very helpful to me will try some af your epsom salt solution.Where to buy the potasium nitrate?may i ask.

I forgot to let you know that we get sunshine all year round.
summer months can get hot up to 90 degrees F.I belive my pond helps them grow giving them humidity.

i have robert's delight, dr. Anek thai sky, pachara blue, yellow gold, coreula etc etc.

i love vanda.im in love.but i must say they need a lot of time caring unlike cattleyas and other orchids that need you water ones a week.
