Actually, on a positive note, I've had some orchids completely thrown out of their pots after falling, and they grow better after this happens! Maybe its something about being repotted, or falling, but it seems to revive them! Stay positive, and good for you for not giving up!! They will repay you for it

I know it's early, but what's the final damage tally? I mean, how many are fine, how many are questionable, and how many in OICU?
I'd contribute a division and/or a few seedlings to replace a few that were lost. I bet others would do the same.

Really feel bad for you. I lost about 20 vandas to a storm a couple years ago. Only 2 survived and I know how sick I felt.
What did you lose? I can help replace some if I know what you grow or need. Make a list.

I've been told that dyno-gro KLN helps to promote root growth. Sorry if that's not helpful---

Elitebettas
Are all of them ok? When you say "inside", did you mean "your house"? Oh, I hope they're alright! Did you get any other damage from Fay? How is the weather down there now? It's rainy and messy and gloomy here, but no high winds. I know we here in Alabama don't suffer much at all compared to you down there, but it sure wasn't a party up here, either.....even though we have only gotten the repercussions, side effects or whatever the correct word is (you know what I mean, though). I hope everything's fine for you (and other people down there, too, of course)!

Hi Guys,
VickiC and GrandmaM, I had to take everything inside and I mean everything, So many orchids. I had them in the bathroom, on two 3 tier wire racks in my bedroom and kitchen in the laundry room, closet, on top of microwave and fridge, hanging from ceiling fans. A real ordeal, but it was necessary-I think we all put a lot into growing and learning about our plants. Thanks for the kind words, everyone is okay

Sorry for the tragedy, but I learned a couple years ago (with a freak hail storm) not to move any orchids outside unless protected from freaks of weather. I lost an extensive Phal collection (some were very large and very much in bloom) when hail decimated the leaves. I have a Keiki from one of the lesser plants left. That's it. Most of my other species that were out at the time still bear scars. I am not a fan of having expensive plants left outside, no matter how attractive. Mine stay put in their permanent home. I think the grow lights will be the best move you've ever made (with your hubby's help ) as I have had great success under lights, even in my south-facing grow window.

Ross, That's definitely food for thought. I'm an outdoor grower too, and I have the occasional mishap. I guess it's a question of when, not if tragedy strikes.
I've got to build a greenhouse.

Royal, had I had overhead protection, everybody would have been fine. I still place a couple sun-lovers out (Brassavolas) but under a double wall cover that still has chunks out from the hail. Even a slatted overhead structure, even a screen, even visqueen, anything would have been better. I'm over the loss now, but the rest of that summer was not good for me
