I just wish that there were some Canadian sellers out there. I couldn't really communicate with the one in France, even with the translation program. There were no descriptions or culture advice. But, as I say. The plants were fine and cheap.

Much has been said already, but I wanted to jump in to say "Go for it!"
Eaby can be a great place to buy anything including orchids. I bought some great orchids including my Susan Fender Cinnamon Stick and some others from Kawamoto orchid farm in Hawaii (they sell mostly Cattleya types but they also sell others on ebay as well). They ship very fast and the orchids wer packed very carefully and nicely! Strongly recommend!!!

I don't like it when some people make it sound like shopping on ebay is a bad thing just because they had some not so great experience. Mislabeling or any other issue can happen with purchase anywhere, not just online or ebay.

There are many great sellers there.

As with anything sold on ebay, it helps if they have photos of actual items they are selling. Most of them do as you will find out when you search around. I've seen a few that do not, and of course I will not buy from them not knowing what I'm buying will look like.

Bud, how were you able to get plants from foreign countries? Did you have to get lots of paper work done or did you get lucky?

Dude, I wasnt lucky...my sellers have CITES and Phyto certificates and I had to pay for it. They have the stamp on the box so the US customs didnt thrash it...orchids from Asia are clean healthy and grown to a certain specification that I find it easy for me to take over and care for them...besides if they made a boo boo I would have my money back (via Paypal) and they will never get to sell on EBAY ever...so the stakes are high on their reputation

Good to hear about Abita, I have been tempted a couple of times by them. I may have to give them a try.

I purchased a "Sharry Baby" online, and the plant was great. Very healthy and spiking now (purchased about 6 months ago).

I would just make sure the picture is of your actual plant. Look at the pot size they will be sending you. Many are in 2" pots. So the pics are sometimes misleading.

Secondly, remember to add shipping to the price, some look like great deals until you add shipping!

Good luck

J

The seller that I bought from in France has free shipping. My biggest bargain was when he had a sale and I got a Vasco Pine River Orange seedling for $8. It is a healthy plant so even though it lost a few roots from the long trip, it is doing beautifully. Lots of new roots in just a few months.
