I am so glad I found this thread for two reason, I was at the local garden center today and saw an orchid I fell in love with, it had beautiful flowers and was a big plant and all the label said was Orchidee, now seeing as the other said Phalaenopsis I thought that this was a new kind of orchid to me, I only didnt purchase it as at the moment I did not have anywhere to put such a big plant, now I am very glad as I would be begging you all to tell me what my wonderful 'Orchidee' hybrid required and looking rather silly.
The second reason is that I looked at the other thread and Oh my word I really needed that laugh tonight, you certainly learn something new every day!
All the orchids here all labeled 'orchidee'!!
I have a cymbidium Orchidee, and a phal Orchidee, and and an Oncidium Orchidee!! Orchids are orchids in their book!
I think the word is dutch and not french. For one, the dutch produce millions of orchids that they export all over the world, and the French don't. Also, if it had been the word orchid in french, it would have been spelled with an accent on the first e, Orchidée.
