Default I got thirty plus orchids from someone who was moving

Saturday, I got 35 orchids from a young man who was moving after his rental home went to foreclosure. The orchids were laying on the patio floor, sideways, dry, sad looking.
After getting home and just watering them, they started to look much better. I have not idea what I got. All of them had this bid , metal support . I started cutting the dead wood and taking out the metal support. I didn't finish that day and to my surprised some of them are blooming just below the dead wood, some are developing new leaves??, and some look like they are going to start blooming. The media have some algae looking thing. I am going to repot them as soon as I receive the new media. They are so many of them ... too many for a newbie like me

The first three pics and the last one I believe are dendrobiums. The fourth pic looks like phalaenopsis.
Dendrobiums like bight light where phalaenopsis do not like bright light. They are in sphagnum moss that I can see. That's fine but needs changing every year. Dendrobiums like to completely dry out before watering again. Phals like to get almost completely dry before watering.
Anyway, there's lots of information here on the OB, and you can check that out. All seem to be in great shape. You hit the jackpot! Both of those generally produce fairly often. Dendrobiums may need a rest during winter, but you will read about that.
I really like those pots in the fourth picture! I've never seen square clear pots with holes all around like that....way cool!
I can't help but feel bad for someone to have to leave their home and orchids behind like that. They must be going through such a difficult time. My heart aches for those being forced into that type situation.

Oh Kiki it makes me sad too. Every day all those notices in the newspaper. I think of all those people losing their homes that they were probably so happy to get into. I will write down your dendro advice since I have only one and I want to see that puppy bloom!

Thumbs up

In spite of them being laying about on the patio they really don't look to bad. Congrats on the big haul.

That's a great haul. With a little TLC I'm sure you can bring them back to health again. Best Wishes.
