to repot or not to repot?

so...i have a fairly new phal, given to me as a gift. there was no information with it as far as last time it was repotted, fertilized, etc. i've been giving it orchid food once a week, about half what is suggested for every two weeks. anyway, my question is...
the blooms just died. should i repot the plant now or wait? if i do, any suggestions on what sort of pot to put in. i have kept it in the little one it came in, with the little standard green plastic thing most plants are in when you get them at a grocery store etc. i saw someone mention an orchid pot. what is this? where can i find it? is it necessary?

I, personally repot all mine. I know others here do as well. Many store Phals come in clear pots. I try to reuse these as they allow me to monitor medium moisture.

I went with Ross' advice on the repotting. When I pulled the phals out the potting material was hiding some bugs and was soaking wet, the roots surely would have rotted. I repotted (while in bloom even) and they are doing great.

I will always repot new chids from now on, bloom or no bloom.

I put mine in the plastic pots, inside of decorate pots, then I put some moss on top for show. Its easy to pull the moss off of the top and take a peek. If youre like me and only have a few orchids its nice to display them.

I'll repot .... and you know exactly how are the roots and you prevent any sickness... It's like you begin from cero...
