Default Leaf shine equals proper amount of water?

Something I noticed. One of my smaller phals got a little bit dried out, and the first thing i noticed was the leaves becoming pale, not as shiny as usual. This was before they started to droop and wrinkle. Could this be the very first sign of not enough water?

It's either not enough water or too much water. Depends on the roots---but since you imply that it hadn't been watered, I'd assume that it meant that the Phala was under-watered.
